The Atmos Layout & Amp Assignment Planner answers two questions that are usually treated separately: where do the speakers go, and can the receiver you own actually drive them?
Enter your room dimensions and ceiling type — flat, sloped, vaulted and double-height are all handled — and pick a receiver. The planner places every speaker in the layout using Dolby’s published angles, then checks that layout against the receiver’s own amp-assignment constraints and its pre-out count. Where the layout needs more channels than the receiver can power, it names which channels need an outboard amplifier instead of leaving you to work it out.
The speaker angles come from Dolby’s published setup guides and the Dolby Atmos Home Theater Installation Guidelines, with ITU-R Report BS.2159-6 behind the surround positions. The receiver constraints come from Denon’s and Marantz’s own online owner’s manuals, which share identical text, and from each manufacturer’s product page.
Two gaps are shown rather than filled. Dolby’s site does not serve the Installation Guidelines PDF to automated readers, so the quotations come from a mirror dated April 2015 while the current revision is R3.1 from December 2018 — the text is verbatim and internally consistent, but figures may have changed. And Dolby publishes no angle of any kind for the top middle pair in .2 layouts, which is the most common home configuration.
